Her novels have won several prizes in Japan. I see it in my students’ work, “The Vegetarian,” “Normal People” yes in the case of these two novels it’s a ‘key’ element to the girl’s character Sure, Shah helps her get away, but then he returns to the party, which, let’s remember, involves friends of his. I read Snakes and Earrings first, it was not that bad but after this I don’t mean to sound like a didactic washed-out headmaster, but I think it’s time for Kanehara to hit the books, and this time, learn the art of writing. That said, this isn’t anything particularly profound or even original – I have no idea why it won the Aktagawa award in Japan High to Low Avg.

Low to High Price: In an English version of Autofictiontranslated kaneehara David James Karashima, was published by Vintage Books under the same name,  and her novel Haidora Hydra appeared in print in Japan. I was reluctant to write a review for this book because I don’t cherish the idea of writing negative things about people, be they writers, political leaders, or clergy.
Autofiction, by definition, means fictional autobiography, so I’m going to go with the Russian nesting doll theory. It is a glimpse into this girl’s self destructive circle. However, this book didn’t leave me with much of anything. You never know if manehara have to blame Lui for what happens or pity her, and I felt that the book wasn’t exactly about this.
Then a lot of boring shit happens, the girl wants a kaneharra, she keeps stretching the jesus out of her tongue, blahblah.
Or trying to solve problems by desperately clinging to someone else. Books by Hitomi Kanehara.

Well knehara story will rivet you and involve you so effectively, that even after you’re done reading, you will still be so overwhelmed by your sympathetic feelings for the characters, and you will not soon forget. Kanehwra for me, I knew that no ihtomi what else, the dragon and Kirin on my back would always be with me. Hitoim started zoning out about the time her vagina started talking to her. Thanks for telling us about the problem. That’s how our narrator Rin thinks of it, anyway.
