Want to Read saving…. For, according to Hecht, the entire Mapai leadership was part of an enormous betrayal: He was personally sympathetic to Kastner, whom he remembered as an extraordinarily intelligent man. It was meant to shine a light on truths that the world needs to know.

Even if you have no interest in Jews or the Holocaust or Israel, I think it is worth reading because when he describes what Ben Gurion and his cohorts did perffidy how they got away with it, I understood exactly how our own politicians and leaders have gotten away with lying for so long and on such a grand scale to the people they are supposed to represent.

And I was there! My parents spoke often of The Holocaust and that we had relatives who had died in concentration camps. They themselves managed to move out of Brooklyn and to achieve the American dream, a house in the suburbs with a white picket fence.
